Date: 06-Jul-2008

Wellington wind turbine was installed on the top of a hill in Brooklyn, Wellington in March 1993 as part of a research project. The electricity generated is enough to power up to 60-80 homes.
Some useful facts:
- Nominal annual generation: 1 GWh
- Installed capacity: 0.23 MW
- Blade length: 13.5 metres
- Height: 31.5 metres
- Weight: 22.8 tonnes
One of the way to the wind turbine is via Karori Sanctuary (Will describe more in another post)

...

To go to wind turbine, choose the Turbine Track at Karori Sanctuary

The journey takes about 1 hour of hiking. Amazing scenery towards the peak

The wind turbine is can be seen from far

I’m getting nearer

Beautiful flowers along the way

Finally, I’m right at the bottom of it. It’s so windy here

Oh crap! There is a giant fence that separates me from the wind turbine. There must be another way to it
